Brian and I are on our way back to Detour in Toul, France...more canals to come!

Thanks, Kent & Heather! (emailed ya'll, hope it didn't get spammed) Heading out from Verdun, great touring. Happy Sailing!

Like Stephanie said, the European waterways are shockingly inexpensive. We can cruise an entire summer (~3 months) in the French canals for about $10k to $12k. And that includes everything - round-trip plane tix to the US east coast, marina fees, diesel, cruising permit, insurance, winter storage, off-season maintenance, transportation within France (rental cars / trains, etc.), museum entry fees, and food.
We keep some numbers on our website, including weekly totals of km traveled, locks, engine hours, and mooring fees. You can link to us from Brian and Stephanie's "Friends" link (we're "mv Apres Ski") or directly at unexcusedabsences dot com. And if you're wondering who the heck we are, we met these two in Toul in mid July, 2015.

Thanks so much for your comment, it is a great reminder to us that we have neglected "By the Numbers" since moving aboard Detour. We are certainly still tracking finances and numbers of all varieties and I'll put Brian to work on getting a post together re. refit/maintenance, and our travel expenses. Just us 2 living aboard. Detour's other 2 owners are nearly ready to "cast off their docklines" and pick retirement dates. (though they will likely split time between Detour and their fabulous grand-baby on the west coast) Europe has proved more affordable than we anticipated, in the canals, and we'll be happy to share!

You two (four?) have a beautiful yacht. Just wondering though, are the posts about cruising costs going to continue, or is that done now that you're on a much more expensive yacht?
