Bjornsund

I can simply say about the island of Bjornsund, that it was exceptionally beautiful and the people are spectacular!  We are fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit, thanks to the great organization of our fellow Ocean Cruising Club (OCC) member, Jan, for having orchestrated the Arctic Rally and including Bjornsund on the itinerary. Bjornsund was once a thriving fishing community; herring was the primary catch.  We had the privilege of a private tour of the island's museum, as well as a presentation about the island's history from a Norwegian man who had lived on Bjornsund during his childhood.  Now, the island has no permanent residents.  During summer months, holiday homes come to life.  The OCC Arctic Rally fleet brought a bit of excitement into the fishing harbour.  Our 9 boats fit neatly onto the ferry quay.  We stretched our legs among the wild flowers, chatted with the weekenders, and gathered at the quay to enjoy one another's company.       Fishing Museum

Lynnie & Max, it's been quite an adventure heading north with these sailors! We're enjoying Norway and learning so much. Hope we cross paths when we begin south...trying to play in the Lofotens for a little while before we are movin' again!

Hi, We've been really enjoying your blog and the capturing of your Norwegian sailing adventure. We're in southern Norway now but wish we could have met up with the OCC Rally on your cruise up to the Lofotens. Your posts, though, will bing back some wonderful memories. We're already looking forward to the next one!
