Our second look at Guadeloupe brought us to outer islands and cozy nooks where we found amazing scenery, delicious food, and surprisingly friendly, French islanders. The touristic 'Les Saintes' was our first stop; here we explored from the anchorage behind tiny, Ilet a Cabrit, accompanied by S/Y Tilly Whim and S/Y Calico Skies. There are nice hiking trails at Les Saintes, as well as great dive opportunities.

At Marie Gallant, we welcomed our good friend, Tania, aboard Detour
. Tania was a delight to have aboard; she shared delicious recipes and added loads of laughter to our already comical group! Marie Gallant, with it's sleepy towns and farm-laden hillsides, was a lovely location for S/Y Calico Skies, S/Y Tilly Whim, and S/Y Java to enjoy a few more play dates before we said "Farewell!"...until the next harbour!

Winding down the excitement with a little rest and relaxation on mainland Guadeloupe...we were in need of provisions, so a brief stop at Pointe-a-Pitre was necessary before sneaking off to Basse-Terre.
At Goyave, on Basse-Terre, we'd enjoyed a peaceful anchorage unbeknownst to the typical cruiser. This was a sleepy fishing village, with a very active sailing club whose windsurfers colored the harbour during most afternoons. Brian and Bill (S/Y Calico Skies) spent a day fishing, while Tania and I tackled a trail (16 miles total!) to the Chutes de Moreau waterfalls. The boys had an aperitif waiting, chilled rose wine accompanied by baguettes (thanks to Tania for pre-ordering them!) with salted butter. Fortunately, Brian and Bill had luck while fishing and cooked a tasty goat-cheese encrusted lion fish and a side of broccoli, much to the delight of we hungry hikers!
Over the river and through the rain forest...
Chutes de Moreau - at last!
At the island of Gosier, we said "Farewell!" to Tania...although with a teeny bit of encouragement we nearly succeeded at extending her stay...

Goodbye, Guadeloupe... we're sailing onward with S/Y Calico Skies!
